Dhṛtarāṣṭra–Sañjaya Dialogue: Description of the Night Engagement of Karṇa and Ghaṭotkaca
ghaṇṭābhiś ca gajendrāṇāṁ bhāṇḍaiś ca vividhair api | sragbhiś ca nānābharaṇair vastraiś caiva mahādhanaiḥ ||
The verse highlights the scale and splendor of royal resources—elephants outfitted with bells, along with garlands, ornaments, garments, and abundant wealth—suggesting how material power and display accompany political-military life, yet remain external supports rather than inner virtue.
Kṛṣṇa is describing (or enumerating) lavish items and wealth—equipment for great elephants and other costly adornments—within the broader wartime narrative of Drona Parva, where such resources signify the might and preparedness of royal forces and courts.
