The verse highlights the interplay of human effort and divine orchestration: Arjuna fulfills his righteous vow by slaying Jayadratha, while Kṛṣṇa controls circumstances (the created darkness) to enable dharma’s outcome. It underscores that ethical resolve and disciplined action may be supported by higher guidance, especially when the aim is the restoration of justice.
After Arjuna kills Jayadratha—whom he had vowed to slay before sunset—Kṛṣṇa ends the artificial darkness he had produced. The withdrawal of darkness signals that the tactical concealment is complete and the decisive act has been accomplished.
