Duryodhana’s Appeal to Karna — The Kripa–Karna Dialogue
यौ तौ समीयतुर्वीरी वैकर्तनवृकोदरौ । कथं तावत्र युध्येतां महाबलपराक्रमौ,जो वीर पहले आपसमें भिड़ चुके थे, वे ही महान् बल और पराक्रमसे सम्पन्न कर्ण और भीमसेन यहाँ पुन: कैसे युद्धमें प्रवृत्त हुए?
yau tau samīyatur vīrī vaikartanavṛkodarau | kathaṃ tāv atra yudhyetāṃ mahābalaparākramau ||
サञ्जャヤは言った。「かつてすでに刃を交えた二人の勇士――御者の子ヴァイカルタナ・カルナと、『狼腹』のヴリコーダラ・ビーマセーナ――その二人が、ここで再びいかにして戦いに身を投じたのか。いずれも大いなる力と恐れぬ武威を備えているというのに。」
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights the recurring, almost inescapable nature of conflict in the Kurukṣetra war: even renowned heroes who have already clashed are drawn back into battle by duty (kṣatriya-dharma), allegiance, and the momentum of the larger war.
Sañjaya frames a transition by asking how Karna and Bhīma—both famed for extraordinary strength and valor—came to fight each other again on this occasion, implying a renewed confrontation after an earlier encounter.
