Sātyaki-praveśaḥ and Duryodhana-saṃnipātaḥ

Sātyaki’s passage and Duryodhana’s mass engagement

Educational Q&A

Even in a righteous war, outcomes hinge on disciplined skill and presence of mind. The episode highlights the ethical tension of battling revered elders: respect for the teacher remains, yet duty to one’s side compels resistance, expressed here through controlled, strategic countering rather than reckless violence.

Sanjaya reports that Sātyaki neutralizes Droṇa’s incoming weapon-missiles through his own astra-technique (māyā as tactical skill) and then strikes Droṇa with sharp arrows, producing a moment that appears ‘wondrous’ amid the chaos of battle.
