Educational Q&A

The verse foregrounds attentive listening and moral accountability: after a pivotal loss (Bhishma’s fall), leaders and armies reveal their true priorities through the actions they choose next. It invites reflection on how grief, ambition, and dharma shape decisions in crisis.

Sanjaya begins answering Dhritarashtra’s inquiry about the Kauravas’ response after Bhishma (Devavrata) is slain. He asks the king to listen carefully as he recounts what Dhritarashtra’s sons did in the wake of that turning point in the war.
