अध्याय ८० — मध्यंदिन-रणवृत्तान्तः

ते कृत्वा समरव्यूहं सूचीमुखमरिंदमा: । बिभिदुर्धार्तराष्ट्राणां तद् रथानीकमाहवे
te kṛtvā samaravyūhaṃ sūcīmukham ariṃdamāḥ | bibhidur dhārtarāṣṭrāṇāṃ tad rathānīkam āhave ||
サンジャヤは言った。敵を屈する勇士たちは「スーチームカ(針の尖端)」の戦陣を結ぶや、戦いのただ中で、ダールタラーシュトラ方の戦車隊を突き破り、裂き崩し始めた。ここには、規律ある策と武勇の結合が示される。一点に収斂した陣形が大軍をも破り、決意と秩序が戦場の圧倒的な抵抗を貫くのである。
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights that in warfare, mere numbers are not decisive: disciplined organization (vyūha) and concentrated effort can pierce a stronger line. Ethically, it reflects the kṣatriya ideal of purposeful, ordered action rather than chaotic violence.
Sañjaya reports that a group of warriors forms the sūcīmukha (needle-point) battle formation and uses it to break into and split the Kauravas’ chariot-division on the battlefield.
