Bhīṣma–Dhanaṃjaya Duel and the Opening Clash
तयोर्नवरयोर्दृष्टवा तादृशं त॑ पराक्रमम्
tayor nara-varyor dṛṣṭvā tādṛśaṃ taḥ parākramam
サンジャヤは言った。「あの二人の最上の勇士が示した、かくも並外れた武威を目の当たりにして、彼はその勇気の奔流に打たれた——戦いがいかに苛烈に展開しているかを告げる不吉な兆しであり、力が戦争に結びつけられるとき、義務と自制の限界が試されるのである。」
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how witnessing immense martial prowess can signal the gravity of dharma under strain: valor is admirable, yet in war it also intensifies ethical pressure—duty, restraint, and right conduct are tested when power is unleashed.
Sañjaya reports that he (or the observer in context) sees the remarkable battle-valor of two eminent warriors; the line functions as a narrative pivot emphasizing the scale and intensity of the combat between leading heroes.
