Garuḍa Array and the Ardhacandra Counter-Formation
sa tāḍyamānaḥ samare bhīṣma-cāpa-cyutaiḥ śaraiḥ
The verse highlights the ethical weight of warfare: even heroic figures must endure suffering when confronting a powerful, duty-driven opponent. It implicitly points to kṣatriya-dharma—steadfastness amid danger—and the inevitability of consequences in armed conflict.
Sañjaya reports that a warrior (referred to as “he”) is being struck in battle by arrows that have been discharged from Bhīṣma’s bow, emphasizing Bhīṣma’s martial dominance and the intensity of the engagement.
