Counter-deployment of Divisions and the Opening Tumult
समुच्छितं दन््तशलाकमस्य सुपाण्डुरं छत्रमतीव भाति । प्रदक्षिणं चैनमुपाचरन्त महर्षय: संस्तुतिभिममहेन्द्रम्
saṃucchritaṃ dantaśalākam asya supāṇḍuraṃ chatram atīva bhāti | pradakṣiṇaṃ cainam upācaranta maharṣayaḥ saṃstutibhir mamahendram ||
サンジャヤは言った。彼の上には、象牙の支柱を備えた高く掲げられた、まばゆい白の天蓋(傘蓋)が輝き、壮麗さを放っていた。ついで大いなる聖仙たちは、さまざまな讃歌で人の主を称えつつ、恭しく侍り、吉祥の右旋(順時針)の作法で彼の周りを巡った。迫る戦のただ中にあっても、彼が敬われるべき正しき王権の担い手であることを示したのである。
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights dharmic kingship and rightful honor: symbols like the white royal parasol and the sages’ clockwise circumambulation signify legitimate sovereignty and moral esteem, implying that true authority is affirmed by virtue and the recognition of the wise.
A royal parasol supported by tusk-rods is held aloft over the king, shining brightly, while great seers approach, praise him with hymns, and perform pradakṣiṇā (clockwise circumambulation) as a formal act of reverence.
