निविष्टान् पाण्डवांश्वैव प्रीयमाणान् महारथान् । भीष्मस्य पतने हृष्टानुपगम्य महाबल:,पाण्डव महारथी भीष्मके गिर जानेसे बहुत प्रसन्न थे और हर्षमें भरकर विश्राम कर रहे थे। उस समय महाबली भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण यथासमय उनके पास पहुँचकर धर्मपुत्र युधिष्ठिरसे इस प्रकार बोले--“कुरुनन्दन! सौभाग्यकी बात है कि तुम जीत रहे हो। यह भी भाग्यकी ही बात है कि भीष्म रथसे गिरा दिये गये
niviṣṭān pāṇḍavāṃś caiva prīyamāṇān mahārathān | bhīṣmasya patane hṛṣṭān upagamya mahābalaḥ ||
サञ्जयは語った。ビ―シュマの倒れたことを喜び、満ち足りて安らかに憩うパーンダヴァの大車戦士たちを見て、あの大力の者は時宜を得て彼らのもとへ近づいた。この場面は、正義の戦であっても勝利が複雑な情を伴うことを示す――決定的な転機への安堵と歓喜がある一方、尊ばれる長老の没落の重みと、行いにおけるダルマ（法）の要請、節度と自制の責めが影を落とすのである。
