tasya kīrtimatas tāta purā rāmeṇa dhīmatā |
サンジャヤは言った。「愛しき者よ、かつて賢者ラーマ(パラシュラーマ)が名高きビーシュマに授けた、敵軍を滅ぼし得る武器の教練に拠りて、クル族の老いたる大祖父ビーシュマ、敵の勇士を屠る者は、日ごとに対陣する(パーンダヴァ方の)軍勢の精鋭一万を斬り伏せ続けていた。」
संजय उवाच
The verse highlights how prior training and acquired power (astra-śikṣā) can decisively shape outcomes in war, while implicitly raising the ethical tension of kṣatriya-duty: excellence in dharma-as-duty may still entail immense violence and tragic loss.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Bhīṣma, drawing upon the formidable weapon-instruction he once received from Paraśurāma, is daily slaughtering vast numbers—ten thousand chief warriors—of the opposing host on the battlefield.
