ततः शिखण्डी गाड़ेयं युध्यमानं महाहवे । जघान बहुभिर्बाणै: सह गाण्डीवधन्चना

Transliteration

tataḥ śikhaṇḍī gāṅgeyaṁ yudhyamānaṁ mahāhave | jaghāna bahubhir bāṇaiḥ saha gāṇḍīvadhanvanā ||

Translation

そののちシカンディーは、大合戦のただ中で戦い続けるガーンゲーヤ（ビーシュマ）を、多くの矢で射貫いた。そこには、ガーンディーヴァを執るアルジュナの助力があった。この場面は、戦においては策と時勢が個の武勇を凌ぐことを示す。ビーシュマの恐るべき武威も、同盟の力と戦術的な布陣、そして彼自身の誓願と選択が課した制約とによって抑え込まれたのである。
