Attempt to Dissuade Kuntī; Commencement of Forest Residence
तेडब्रुवन ज्ञातुमिच्छाम: कतमोऊत्र युधिष्ठिर: । भीमार्जुनौ यमौ चैव द्रौपदी च यशस्विनी,उन्होंने पूछा--“हमलोग यह जानना चाहते हैं कि यहाँ आये हुए लोगोंमें महाराज युधिष्ठिर कौन हैं? भीमसेन, अर्जुन, नकुल, सहदेव और यशस्विनी द्रौपदीदेवी कौन हैं?
vaiśampāyana uvāca | teḍ abruvan jñātum icchāmaḥ katamo 'tra yudhiṣṭhiraḥ | bhīmārjunau yamau caiva draupadī ca yaśasvinī |
ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。「彼らは問うた。『ここに来た者たちのうち、いずれがユディシュティラ王であるのか。さらに、ビーマとアルジュナ、双子の兄弟ナクラとサハデーヴァ、そして名高きドラウパディは、いずれであるのか』」
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights discernment and respectful inquiry: before judging or approaching revered figures, one seeks correct identification and understanding. It also underscores the moral stature associated with names like Yudhiṣṭhira (dharma) and Draupadī (renown), suggesting that ethical reputation precedes personal acquaintance.
Some people who have encountered the arriving group ask to be told which person is Yudhiṣṭhira and which are the other famed members of his family—Bhīma, Arjuna, the twins Nakula and Sahadeva, and Draupadī—indicating recognition of their fame but uncertainty about their individual identities.
