देवास्तु पितरो नाम निर्मिता ये स्वयम्भुवा । उष्णपा ये महाभागास्तेषां भाग: प्रकल्पित:
devāstu pitaro nāma nirmitā ye svayambhuvā | uṣṇapā ye mahābhāgāsteṣāṃ bhāgaḥ prakalpitaḥ ||
ビーシュマは言った。「自生者スヴァヤンブー（自ら生じた創造主）によって生み出されたある種の神々は、『ピトリ（祖霊）』の名で知られる。その幸い高き祖霊たちはまたウシュナパーとも呼ばれる。スヴァヤンブーはシュラーダの供物において彼らのための定まった分を制定した—祖先を敬うことがダルマにおいて公認された務めであることを示すためである。」
