Offerings for Ancestors and Their Stated Results
अथानिनिर्देवता दृष्टवा बभूव व्यथितस्तदा । किमागमनमित्येवं तानपृच्छत पावक:,उस समय देवताओंको देखकर अग्निदेव व्यथित हो गये और उनसे पूछने लगे --'किस उद्देश्यसे यहाँ आपलोगोंका शुभागमन हुआ है?”
athāninirdevatā dṛṣṭvā babhūva vyathitas tadā | kim āgamanam ity evaṁ tān apṛcchata pāvakaḥ ||
そのとき、そこに集まった神々を見て、火神アグニは心騒いだ。彼は彼らに問うた。「いかなる目的で、ここへ来られたのか。」
भीष्म उवाच
The verse highlights prudent inquiry in the face of unexpected divine presence: even a great power like Agni responds with restraint and seeks the purpose (prayojana) behind an event, aligning action with dharma and right understanding.
Bhīṣma narrates that Agni sees the gods approaching, becomes uneasy, and asks them why they have come—setting up a forthcoming divine request or intervention.
