Śrāddha-Kalpa: Pitṛ-Pūjā and Tithi-Phala
mayā śrutam idaṃ pūrvaṃ purāṇe bhṛgunandana | prajāpateḥ kathayato yathānyāyaṃ tu tasya vai ||
Bhīṣma grounds his instruction in authoritative tradition: true guidance on dharma should align with nyāya (justice/propriety) and be supported by respected ancient testimony (here, a Purāṇic account attributed to Prajāpati).
Bhīṣma, continuing his discourse, introduces a remembered Purāṇic precedent. He tells his listener—addressed as Bhṛgunandana—that he previously heard Prajāpati narrate this matter in a properly reasoned, justice-consistent way, preparing to cite or explain that teaching.
