Gopradāna–Bhūmidāna Guidelines and Recipient Eligibility
पुत्राज्छियं च लभते यश्छत्र॑ सम्प्रयच्छति । न चनक्षुव्याधिं लभते यज्ञभागमथाश्षुते
putrān śriyaṁ ca labhate yaś chatraṁ samprayacchati | na ca netravyādhiṁ labhate yajñabhāgam athāśnute ||
ビーシュマは言った。「傘蓋(パラソル)を施す者は、子を得、繁栄を得る。眼の病を受けず、また祭祀(ヤジュニャ)の功徳の分け前を常に受ける。」
भीष्म उवाच
The verse teaches dāna-dharma: gifting a parasol—an emblem of shelter and dignity—yields auspicious results such as prosperity, progeny, health (especially of the eyes), and ongoing participation in sacrificial merit.
In the Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on ethical duties and the fruits of various gifts. Here he specifies the merit gained by donating a chatra (parasol).
