आत्मानमाख्याति हि कर्मभिर्नर: सुशीलचारित्रकुलै: शुभाशुभै: । प्रणष्टमप्याशु कुलं तथा नर: पुन: प्रकाशं कुरुते स्वकर्मत:
ātmānam ākhyāti hi karmabhir naraḥ suśīlacāritrakulaiḥ śubhāśubhaiḥ | praṇaṣṭam apy āśu kulaṃ tathā naraḥ punaḥ prakāśaṃ kurute svakarmataḥ ||
ビーシュマは言った。「人はその行い—善であれ悪であれ—によってこそ真に知られ、またその品性の洗練、ふるまい、家の系譜によっても知られる。たとえ一族が没落し、世の闇に沈んだとしても、男は自らの行為の力によって、たちまちそれを再び世に顕し、名誉と人々の敬意を取り戻すことができる。」
