निरिन्द्रिया हुशास्त्राश्न स्त्रियोडनृतमिति श्रुति: । शय्यासनमलंकारमन्नपानमनार्यताम्
nirindriyā huśāstrāśna striyo 'nṛtam iti śrutiḥ | śayyāsanam alaṅkāram annapānam anāryatām ||
ビーシュマは言った。「聖伝(シュルティ)は、あるものが人を高雅な行いから遠ざけると説く。すなわち自制なき生、聖なる教えの濫用や歪曲、女(享楽の対象として近づくとき)、そして虚偽である。また、豪奢な寝台や座、過度の装飾、飲食への執着—これらは anāryatā、すなわち行いにおける『非アーリヤ(非高雅)』へと人を引き寄せる徴である。」
भीष्म उवाच
Bhīṣma warns that loss of self-restraint and attachment to sensual comforts—along with untruth—undermine ārya (noble) conduct; ethical life requires control of the senses, truthfulness, and moderation.
In Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma continues his instruction on dharma, listing behaviors and indulgences that lead a person away from noble standards and toward anāryatā (ignoble conduct).
