Educational Q&A

The verse identifies the divine as immanent in both sacred authorship (Vyāsa) and the structure of the cosmos—especially the ordered cycles of time. It teaches that dharma is grounded in recognizing a single sustaining principle behind creation, its concise/expanded forms, and the calendrical rhythms that regulate human life and ritual.

Vāyu is praising/defining the supreme principle through a litany of identifications: the deity is called Vyāsa and also equated with creation and with temporal units (season, year, month, fortnight) and their completing junctions. The passage functions as a theological enumeration (stuti) linking cosmic order and sacred tradition.
