kṣatradharmarataḥ pārtha pitṝn devāṁś ca tarpayā | śreyasā yokṣyase caiva vyetu te mānaso jvaraḥ ||
Steadfastness in one’s ordained duty (kṣatra-dharma) and faithful performance of obligations to gods and ancestors leads to śreyas (true welfare) and calms inner turmoil; ethical action and ritual responsibility are presented as remedies for grief and anxiety.
Vaiśampāyana addresses Pārtha (Arjuna), urging him to remain committed to the warrior’s code and to perform acts of propitiation for the devas and Pitṛs, assuring him of auspicious outcomes and encouraging him to let go of mental distress.
