devā devarṣayaś caiva stutā rājarṣayas tathā | puṣṭim āyur yaśaḥ svargaṁ vidhāsyanti mameśvarāḥ ||
Reverent praise of divine and spiritually accomplished authorities (gods, divine seers, and royal sages) is presented as a dharmic act that yields tangible and moral fruits—well-being, longevity, good reputation, and a meritorious heavenly destiny—because such beings are regarded as capable dispensers of results.
Bhishma, instructing on dharma, explains the efficacy of stuti (praise). He states that honoring devas, devarshis, and rajarshis invites their favor, through which they can grant prosperity, long life, fame, and access to svarga.
