Śiva-stavarāja: Upamanyu’s Preface and Initiation of the Śarva-Nāma Enumeration

The verse presents a moral paradox of divine power: the Lord is simultaneously the liberator from karmic bondage for those aligned with dharma and the restrainer of destructive forces. Freedom and restraint are not contradictions but two functions of the same cosmic governance.
Vāyu-deva is praising the supreme divine being through epithets, describing cosmic roles (upholding time and life-cycles) and ethical-historical roles (binding Asura-kings and destroying enemies in battle), emphasizing divine intervention when adharma becomes dominant.
