The verse teaches that the Divine is simultaneously the cosmic support (kumbhaḥ) and the inner purifier (viśodhanaḥ): devotion and remembrance are presented as ethically transformative, cleansing the heart and strengthening steadfastness through recognition of the Lord’s unrivaled power.
Within Bhishma’s instruction in Anuśāsana Parva, he recites a sequence of divine epithets—praising the Lord’s radiance, worship-worthiness, purity, invincibility, and specific vyūha-forms (Aniruddha, Pradyumna)—as part of a devotional and didactic hymn meant to guide conduct and inner purification.
