Vyuṣṭi (Merit-Outcome) of Honoring Brāhmaṇas: Kṛṣṇa and Durvāsā
hariteṣu suvarṇeṣu barhiṣkeṣu naveṣu ca | upopaviviśuḥ prītā viṣṭareṣu maharṣayaḥ ||
The verse underscores the dharmic ideal of preparing a pure, orderly, and respectful setting—using sanctified materials like kuśa grass—before engaging in sacred rites or ethical instruction; inner joy (prīti) and outer propriety support right conduct.
As Bhishma narrates, the great sages, pleased and composed, take their seats on fresh, kuśa-grass ritual spreads—green and golden—signaling the commencement of a formal, sacred discussion or observance.
