Śiva-nāmānukīrtana-prastāvaḥ
Prologue to the praise of Śiva and the Upamanyu testimony
तत्राश्रमपदे श्रेष्ठे सर्वभूतमनोरमे । सेविते द्विजशार्टूलैवेंदवेदाड़पारगै:
tatrāśramapade śreṣṭhe sarvabhūtamanorame | sevite dvijaśārdūlaiḥ vedavedāṅgapāragaiḥ ||
そこは、あらゆる生きものにとって心地よい最勝のアーシュラマであり、ヴェーダとその補助学（ヴェーダーンガ）に通暁した第一のバラモンたちが出入りしていた。私はそこに入り、ウパマニュを見た。バラモンの中の宝珠たる彼は、結髪（ジャター）と樹皮衣をまとい、威光に満ち、苦行（タパス）によって火のごとく輝き、心は静まり、若さの盛りにあって、弟子たちに囲まれて座していた。
