Śiva-nāmānukīrtana-prastāvaḥ

Prologue to the praise of Śiva and the Upamanyu testimony

भूधरो नागमौज्जी च नागकुण्डलकुण्डली । नागयज्ञोपवीती च नागचर्मोत्तरच्छद:

bhūdharo nāgamaūjjī ca nāgakuṇḍalakuṇḍalī | nāgayajñopavītī ca nāgacarmottaracchadaḥ ||

ヴァースデーヴァは言った。「彼は大地を支える者、蛇を帯として締める者である。蛇の耳飾りを着け、蛇で作られた聖紐(ヤジュニョーパヴィータ)を掛け、蛇皮を上衣として肩にまとう。」この描写は、宇宙を支える基盤としてのシェーシャ(Śeṣa)を想起させる—克己と揺るがぬ務めに彩られ、その装身具さえも、世界を支える奉仕のために鍛えられ抑えられた力の象徴となっている。
