पापात् प्रवर्धतो दृष्टया कल्याणानावसीदत: । ध्रुवं गर्हयसे नित्यं तेनासि हरिण: कृश:
pāpāt pravardhato dṛṣṭvā kalyāṇān avasīdataḥ | dhruvaṃ garhayase nityaṃ tenāsi hariṇaḥ kṛśaḥ ||
「罪がはびこり、善き行いに励む徳ある者が打ち沈められ苦しめられるのを見て、おまえはこの世のありさまを幾度も幾度も非難しているに違いない。その絶えぬ内なる呵責が、おまえをすり減らした。ゆえに鹿よ、おまえはやせ細り、青白くなったのだ。」
