मानसतीर्थ-शौचप्रशंसा | Praise of the ‘Mental Tīrtha’ and the Marks of Purity
तत्र शंखपताके द्वे युगान्तं कल्पमेव च । अयुतायुतं तथा पद्म समुद्र च तथा वसेत्
tatra śaṅkha-patāke dve yugāntaṁ kalpam eva ca | ayutāyutaṁ tathā padma samudraṁ ca tathā vaset ||
ビーシュマは語った。「その高き界において、誓戒を守る者は、はなはだ広大な時の量を生きると言われる。すなわち『シャンクハ(Śaṅkha)』二つと『パターカー(Patākā)』二つ、さらにユガーンタ(Yugānta)、カルパ(Kalpa)、アユターायुタ(Ayutāyuta)、パドマ(Padma)、そして『サムドラ(Samudra)』に及ぶ。これは、誓いに基づくダルマの果として、梵天界(Brahmaloka)にきわめて長く住することを示す。」
भीष्म उवाच
The verse emphasizes that steadfast observance of vows (vrata-dharma) yields immense spiritual merit, symbolized by extraordinarily long residence in Brahmaloka measured in traditional vast numerical/time units.
Bhīṣma continues his instruction in Anuśāsana Parva by describing the fruits of a vow-observant life, listing grand cosmological measures of time to convey the magnitude of the reward.
