उपदेशदोषप्रसङ्गः (Upadeśa-doṣa-prasaṅgaḥ) — The Risk of Misapplied Counsel
एतत् ते सर्वमाख्यातमुपदेशकृते मया । महान् क्लेशो हि भवति तस्मान्नोपदिशेदिह
etad te sarvam ākhyātam upadeśa-kṛte mayā | mahān kleśo hi bhavati tasmān nopadiśed iha ||
ビーシュマは言った。「教えのために、私はこれらすべてを汝に余すところなく説き明かした。不適の者に教えを授ければ、まことに大いなる苦悩を招く。ゆえにここでは、みだりに教示してはならぬ。」
भीष्म उवाच
Instruction should be given with discernment: teaching those who are unfit or unreceptive leads to trouble for the instructor; therefore counsel should not be offered indiscriminately.
Bhishma concludes a segment of counsel by telling his listener that he has explained everything for the sake of guidance, and he adds a caution about the risks of advising those without proper eligibility.
