Transliteration

vaiśampāyana uvāca | viveśāntaḥpuraṃ tūṇaṃ ratnair uccāvacaiḥ śubhaiḥ | yathopajoṣaṃ sarvaśaḥ janaśrīkrīḍa bhārata ||

Translation

ヴァイシャンパーヤナは語った。内宮の女たちは、吉祥なるさまざまの宝玉を携え、たちまち遊楽の亭へと入った。すると、ああバーラタよ、皆がそれぞれの好みに従って、心地よい遊びに興じた。この光景は王家の繁栄と洗練された歓楽を示しつつも、礼節により枠づけられている—楽しみは、相応しさと社会の秩序の範囲内で追い求められていた。
