Lord Vishnu (speaking to Garuda/Vinata-putra)

Concept: Guṇa-based classification of Purāṇas and the idea that śravaṇa yields specific karmic fruits—here, worldly enjoyment/prosperity.

Vedantic Theme: Guṇa-traya and karma-phala: actions (including listening) produce results aligned with rajas (activity, desire, prosperity).

Application: If seeking artha/bhoga, undertake disciplined śravaṇa of rājasa-oriented narratives while remaining aware of their motivational coloring.

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

FAQs

This verse shows that Garuḍa Purāṇa categorizes certain Purāṇas as Rājasa and links their hearing to a specific fruit—bhukti (worldly enjoyment)—helping readers choose texts according to desired aims.

Directly it does not describe the soul’s post-death path; instead, it states that hearing Rājasa Purāṇas yields worldly results (bhukti), contrasting with other teachings in Garuḍa Purāṇa that focus on mokṣa-oriented practices and afterlife themes.

Use it to set intention: if your goal is dharmic prosperity and active worldly duties, study/listen to Rājasa-oriented Purāṇic narratives while maintaining ethical conduct and balancing them with sattvic teachings for inner clarity.
