Yamarāja Instructs the Yamadūtas: Supreme Authority, Mahājanas, and the Glory of the Holy Name
yamasya devasya na daṇḍa-bhaṅgaḥ kutaścanarṣe śruta-pūrva āsīt etan mune vṛścati loka-saṁśayaṁ na hi tvad-anya iti me viniścitam
This verse states that the Yamadūtas had never heard of anyone obstructing Yama’s punishment, and they seek clarification—setting up the teaching that the Lord’s devotees and the power of bhakti stand beyond ordinary karmic jurisdiction.
After being checked in their duty, they approached Yamarāja in confusion, asking him to remove the assembly’s doubt about how Yama’s authority could be countered.
It encourages sincere devotional practice—especially remembrance and chanting of the Lord’s names—while also respecting dharma, understanding that spiritual transformation can transcend one’s past karma.
