tasmād akīrti-yaśasor jayāpajayayor api samaḥ syāt sukha-duḥkhābhyāṁ mṛtyu-jīvitayos tathā
すべては至上人格神の至高の御意志に依るゆえ、名誉と不名誉、勝利と敗北、生と死に対して平等心を保つべきである。さらに、その結果としての喜びと苦しみにも動じず、憂いなく均衡にとどまれ。
This verse teaches that a devotee should remain steady and balanced whether receiving honor or dishonor, seeing both as temporary and not the goal of life.
In the midst of battle, Vṛtrāsura instructs Indra on spiritual steadiness—urging him to act without being shaken by outcomes like victory, defeat, life, or death.
Do your duty sincerely, accept results without excessive elation or despair, and keep your purpose anchored in devotion rather than external success or failure.
