Aditi’s Payo-vrata and Viṣṇu’s Promise to Appear as Her Son
Prelude to Vāmana
tān vinirjitya samare durmadān asurarṣabhān pratilabdha-jaya-śrībhiḥ putrair icchasy upāsitum
It describes the devas defeating the proud leaders of the asuras in battle and regaining the glory of victory, after which the victorious leader desires to be honored by his sons.
Shukadeva Gosvami narrates this verse to Maharaja Parikshit, describing the situation involving Aditi and the devas after their conflict with the asuras.
Worldly success and honor are temporary; the Bhagavatam uses such moments to point the reader toward seeking lasting shelter through devotion to Lord Vishnu rather than pride in victory.
