Prācī-diś Tīrtha-kathana
tatpaścāt sadā siddha-puruṣaiḥ sevitaṃ godāvarī-taṭaṃ gatvā snānena tīrtha-yātrī gomedha-yajñasya phalaṃ prāpnoti vāsuker loke ca gacchati | veṇā-saṅgame snātvā manuṣya aśvamedha-yajñasya phala-bhāgī bhavati || varadā-saṅgame snātvā go-sahasra-phalaṃ labhet | brahma-sthānaṃ samāsādya tri-rātra-upoṣito naraḥ ||
Pulastya said: Thereafter, a pilgrim who goes to the bank of the Godāvarī—ever frequented by perfected sages—and bathes there gains the merit of the Gomedha sacrifice and attains the world of Vāsuki. Bathing at the confluence of the Veṇā, a person becomes a sharer in the fruit of the Aśvamedha. Bathing at the confluence of the Varadā yields the reward of a thousand cows; and having reached the Brahma-sthāna, a man who observes a three-night fast gains sanctifying merit through disciplined restraint.
