Nala’s Victory over Puṣkara in the Dice-Game
सर्वकामै: सुविहितै: सुखमस्म्युषितस्त्वयि | न तथा स्वगृहे राजन् यथा तव गृहे सदा,राजन! मेरी समस्त कामनाएँ वहाँ अच्छी तरह पूर्ण की गयीं और इसके कारण मैं सदा आपके यहाँ सुखी रहा। महाराज! आपके भवनमें मुझे जैसा आराम मिला, वैसा अपने घरमें भी नहीं मिला
sarvakāmaiḥ suvihitaiḥ sukham asmy uṣitas tvayi | na tathā svagṛhe rājan yathā tava gṛhe sadā ||
Nala said: “Provided with every comfort and well-arranged enjoyments, I have lived happily in your care. O King, I did not find such ease even in my own home as I have always found in your house.”
नल उवाच
The verse highlights the dharma of hospitality and the virtue of gratitude: a guest should acknowledge kindness received, and a ruler’s excellence is shown in generous, well-ordered care for others.
Nala, speaking to a king who has hosted him, expresses heartfelt appreciation, saying that the comfort and fulfillment he experienced in the king’s household surpassed even what he enjoyed in his own home.
