Keśinī’s Inquiry to Bāhuka and the Emotional Signs of Concealed Identity (केशिन्याः बाहुकपरीक्षा)
प्रतीक्षस्व मुहूर्त त्वमथवा त्वरते भवान् । एष याति शिव: पन्था याहि वार्ष्णेयसारथि:,तब राजाने सारथिसे कहा--“यह विलम्ब करनेका समय नहीं है।” बाहुक बोला--मैं प्रयत्नपूर्वक शीघ्र ही गणना समाप्त कर दूँगा। आप दो ही घड़ीतक प्रतीक्षा कीजिये। अथवा यदि आपको बड़ी जल्दी हो तो यह विदर्भदेशका मंगलमय मार्ग है, वाष्णेयको सारथि बनाकर चले जाइये'
bṛhadaśva uvāca |
pratīkṣasva muhūrta tvam athavā tvarate bhavān |
eṣa yāti śivaḥ panthā yāhi vārṣṇeya-sārathiḥ ||
Bṛhadaśva said: “Wait for a moment—or, if you are in haste: this is an auspicious road. Go on, with the Vārṣṇeya as your charioteer.” The line conveys practical counsel in a time-sensitive situation: patience is offered as one option, but if urgency demands, one should proceed by a safe and ‘fortunate’ route with a capable guide.
