Yudeva said: “She (your mother) was given in marriage to King Bhīma, while I, in turn, was given to Vīrabāhu. As for you—you were born in the land of the Daśārṇas, in my father’s own house, and I saw it with my own eyes.”
युदेव उवाच
The verse underscores the ethical weight of truthful testimony and the importance of lineage and marital alliances in epic society—claims about birth and family ties are grounded in direct witness and socially recognized marriage arrangements.
The speaker identifies marital connections (the mother married to King Bhīma; the speaker married to Vīrabāhu) and then asserts the addressee’s birthplace in Daśārṇa at the speaker’s paternal home, emphasizing credibility by stating it was personally witnessed.
