Bṛhadaśva uvāca: evaṁ vimṛśya vividhaiḥ kāraṇair lakṣaṇaiś ca tāṁ upāgamya tato bhaimīṁ Sudevo brāhmaṇo ’bravīt.

Bṛhadaśva said: Having thus reflected in many ways—by various reasons and identifying marks—and having recognized Bhīmī (Damayantī), the brāhmaṇa Sudeva approached her and spoke. The episode underscores careful discernment before action: once he is ethically certain of her identity and of his duty, he moves from deliberation to compassionate, purposeful speech in service of Bhīma’s command and Damayantī’s welfare.

Educational Q&A

Act only after careful discernment: Sudeva verifies Damayantī through multiple signs and reasons, reflects on his duty, and then speaks—showing that ethical action requires both right knowledge (recognition) and right intention (service to a just purpose).

Bṛhadaśva narrates that Sudeva, a brāhmaṇa sent on a search, identifies Damayantī (Bhīmī) by various indications, approaches her, and begins to address her—marking the transition from investigation to delivering his message and assistance.
