Damayantī’s Distress, Proclamation of the Svayaṃvara, and the Gods’ Request

Pāñcālīṃ prāhur akliṣṭāṃ Vāsudevasya śṛṇvataḥ | Duryodhanas tava krodhād devi tyakṣyati jīvitam ||

Yudhiṣṭhira said, in the hearing of Vāsudeva, to the untroubled Pāñcālī (Draupadī): “O goddess-like lady, through the force of your righteous anger Duryodhana will surely abandon his life.” The statement frames Draupadī’s indignation not as mere personal resentment but as a morally charged power that will culminate in the downfall of adharma.
