Damayantī’s Distress, Proclamation of the Svayaṃvara, and the Gods’ Request

Vaiśampāyana uvāca:

yudhi satyābhisandhena vāsudevena rakṣitāḥ |

pradhakṣyanti raṇe pārthāḥ putrāṇāṁ mama vāhinīm ||

Vaiśampāyana said: Protected in battle by Vāsudeva—whose resolve is grounded in truth—the Pārthas will, in the fight, surely burn to ashes the army of my sons. The verse underscores a moral certainty: when righteous purpose is joined to steadfast truth and guided protection, unjust power cannot endure.

Educational Q&A

The verse links victory to ethical force: steadfast commitment to truth (satya) and righteous intent, when supported by wise/divine guidance (Vāsudeva), becomes a decisive protection that overwhelms unrighteous power.

In Vaiśampāyana’s narration, the speaker foresees the Pāṇḍavas’ destructive success in war: under Kṛṣṇa’s protection and with truth-bound resolve, they will devastate the Kaurava host (the army of Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s sons).
