Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Anxiety and Sañjaya’s Report on the Pandavas’ Coalition

Kāmyaka Context

d्रोṇakarṇau pratīyātāṃ yadi bhīṣmo 'pi vā raṇe | mahān syāt saṃśayo loke tatra paśyāmi no jayam ||

Vaiśampāyana said: “Even if Droṇa and Karṇa were to confront him, and even Bhīṣma too in battle, a great doubt would still remain in the world. In that situation I do not see victory for our side.”

Educational Q&A

Even the presence of the greatest warriors does not guarantee success; moral and strategic confidence can collapse when the opponent’s prowess (and the larger course of destiny) makes victory uncertain.

Vaiśampāyana comments on a war-scenario: despite imagining Droṇa, Karṇa, and even Bhīṣma confronting the opponent in battle, he foresees deep public uncertainty and does not perceive victory for his own side.
