Vaiśampāyana said: “O brahmarṣi, at my request those two—Nara and Nārāyaṇa—have been born upon the earth, radiant with great splendor. Possessed of mighty power, they will accomplish the removal of the earth’s burden.”

When disorder and oppression become a ‘burden’ upon the world, divine power manifests through righteous agents to restore balance. The verse frames this restoration as a purposeful, ethical intervention—strength employed for the protection of the earth and the reestablishment of dharma.
Vaiśampāyana explains to a brahmarṣi that Nara and Nārāyaṇa have taken birth on earth at his request. Their mission is to relieve the earth of its burden—an epic motif indicating the removal of destructive forces and the rebalancing of the world through extraordinary valor.
