Bhīmasena’s Discourse on Kāla, Resolve, and the Feasibility of Ajñātavāsa (भीमसेनस्य कालोपदेशः)
yudhiṣṭhira uvāca evam etan mahābāho yathā vadasi bhārata | idam anyat samādatsva vācyaṃ me vākyakovida ||
Yudhiṣṭhira said: “So it is, mighty-armed one, just as you say, O scion of Bharata’s line. Yet accept this other point of mine as well, O skilled in speech—this is what I must say.”
युधिछिर उवाच
Even when one agrees with another’s counsel, dharmic deliberation requires stating one’s own considered view. Yudhiṣṭhira models respectful disagreement: affirming Bhīma’s point while asking him to accept an additional, ethically grounded consideration.
In the forest-exile context, Yudhiṣṭhira addresses Bhīma with honorifics, acknowledges that Bhīma’s statement is correct, and then introduces a further argument of his own, requesting Bhīma—renowned for force and also praised here for discernment in words—to hear and accept it.
