Educational Q&A

The verse frames ethical inquiry through riddles, pushing the listener to look beyond literal meanings and recognize how life, agency, emotion, and growth operate—preparing the mind for dharmic discernment rather than impulsive answers.

In the Yakṣa–praśna episode of the Vana Parva, the Yakṣa questions the Pandava (Yudhiṣṭhira in context) with a sequence of riddles. This verse is one set of four riddling questions posed by the Yakṣa.
