Shloka 13

anādṛtya tu tad vākyaṃ nakulaḥ supipāsitaḥ | apibac chītalaṃ toyaṃ pītvā ca nipapāta ha ||

But Nakula, tormented by intense thirst, disregarded the Yakṣa’s warning. He drank the cool water, and the moment he had drunk, he collapsed senseless. The episode underscores the ethical cost of ignoring rightful counsel and restraint, even under bodily distress.

Educational Q&A

Even urgent bodily needs do not justify ignoring a rightful warning; lack of restraint and disregard for ethical instruction leads to immediate adverse consequences.

In the Yakṣa-at-the-lake episode, Nakula—overcome by thirst—drinks the water despite the Yakṣa’s prohibition, and as a result he collapses unconscious.
