Vaiśampāyana said: The maiden Kuntī, though resolute and speaking many kinds of sweet and persuasive words, was still unable to placate Sahasrāṁśu (the Sun-god). The episode underscores the moral tension between youthful impulsiveness and the inexorable force of a divine boon once invoked.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Sweet speech and earnest pleading do not always undo an action once a divine power has been invoked; the verse highlights ethical responsibility and the limits of human control when dealing with boons and sacred forces.
Kuntī, still a maiden, tries in many ways to persuade and appease the Sun-god (Sūrya), but she cannot succeed; the story is moving toward the irreversible consequence of the divine encounter initiated by her earlier act.
