Sūrya said: “Therefore, come and unite with me. You will obtain a son like me, and you will be regarded as exceptional among all peoples of the world—of this there is no doubt.” In the narrative, the god’s promise of fame and an extraordinary child functions as persuasion, raising an ethical tension between divine power and a young woman’s autonomy and social vulnerability.
सूर्य उवाच
The verse highlights how extraordinary promises—status, fame, and a powerful heir—can be used to persuade, inviting reflection on dharma: ethical choice must consider not only outcomes but also agency, consent, and the social consequences borne by the vulnerable.
Sūrya addresses the young woman and urges union, assuring her she will bear a son like him and gain unmatched distinction. This occurs within the larger episode where divine visitation intersects with human reputation and moral dilemma.
