Sūrya-stava: Dhaumya’s Counsel and the Aṣṭaśata-nāma of Sūrya

imaṃ stavaṃ devavarasya yo naraḥ prakīrtayec chucisumanāḥ samāhitaḥ | vimucyate śokadāvāgnisāgarāl labheta kāmān manasā yathepsitān ||

Dhaumya said: Whoever, after becoming pure through rites such as bathing, with a cleansed mind and steady concentration, recites this hymn of names to the supreme lord among the gods—the Sun—becomes freed from the hard-to-cross ocean of worldly existence, ablaze with the wildfire of grief, and attains the desired aims that he seeks in his heart. The verse frames devotion and disciplined purity as an ethical remedy for sorrow and as a means to regain inner agency amid suffering.
